Us.... Carl with Shrek, Rhonda with Ink, and Iris (Rhonda's Mum) with K'nu

We had been farming in Europe on a small scale since 1992, but with the price of land in Europe we were never going to achieve our dream of helping rare breeds on any scale.
That all changed when, in May 2004, after a long wait, we landed in Canada as new immigrants. We decided to tour the Maritimes before heading west with the intention of settling in Alberta.
The rest, as they say, is history as once we had seen PEI, we couldn't imagine living anywhere else, so we immediately set about finding our own little piece of Canada in which to settle.
We found it in beautiful Dundas,in King's County, halfway between Montague and Souris.
We quickly found an ideal place with 40 acres, and once we settled in, we were very soon joined by K'nu, Ink and Shrek in the house.
We are commited to the conservation of rare and heritage breeds, so since settling we have been looking for ideal species and breeds to keep on our small mixed farm.
We have Heather, a Newfoundland pony and have just acquired a new colt to be her long term mate, his name is Seamus, and he's seven months old.
There's Lydia, the Belted Galloway cow and her calf, Ruby who are now both bred to calve in the spring of 2007.
We are also hosts to a small flock of Horned Dorset Sheep belonging to Rare Breeds Canada, including two gorgeous rams that we've called 'Wallace and Grommet'. The ewes are also bred, to lamb in early March 2007.
Check them all out by clicking buttons on the left
We also have some ' suffolk type' sheep, who are all black, except their leader, who is called 'Ma'. She is pure white, and she is a sweetie. (we think she is a Cheviot, which are notorioulsy skittish). However, Ma is very tame, will follow a carrot anywhere, which is very useful when we want to move her and the rest of the flock.
This was taken in our first summer...
